Annual General Meeting 2019
Before Chris Cooke stepped down as President and handed over the Chain of Office to Mary Wheildon she thanked everyone for a superb year with lots of fun and camaraderie. She was delighted to hand a cheque for £2,100 to her niece as Trustee of the Ups of Downs. Formed in 2006 and based in Royal Leamington Spa, The Ups of Downs works with more than 70 children and young people with Down syndrome, running weekly groups for members from birth through to teenagers. She thanked the members of Southam Bowling Club for all their hard work to ensure her year was a success and wished Mary every success in her year.
Chris also took the opportunity to thank Ann Doherty, County Secretary, for all her help and support over her year and wished her a happy retirement.
Mary thanked Warwick Boat Club for their support and was thrilled when Trish Jarvis (Wolvey) presented her with a beautifully embroidered County Banner for display at matches. A visit to meet James Butler, the sculptor, at his gallery on 1 February will be the second event organised to raise money for her charity, Mary's Meals, where she explained that “£13.90 feeds a child in school in the poorest of countries over 4 continents. Nkhwazi village primary school in Malawi is one such school and if they have a flat dirt area we may be able to send some woods etc. out to get the staff and helpers, as well as the children, playing bowls!” More information on Mary’s Meals can be found at President's Charity.
Heather Mills (Grange Ladies) was welcomed as County Secretary along with Donna Kerr (Lillington) – Junior Vice President who join Debbie Bloxham as Senior Vice President and the rest of the Executive Team.
