FIRST MATCH OF THE SEASON

After a warm sunny morning everything look set fair for the first match of the season against Leicestershire at Stoke Bowling Club – that proved not to be the case as the clouds blocked the sun and the temperature dropped, but at least it stayed dry. Leading overall by one shot at the halfway stage the end result was disappointing as only one rink won and the home team lost 72-104.

Highest Winning Rink went to Pat Moore (Three Spires) with Di Wilkinson (Stoke), Liz Crispin (Wolvey) and Elspeth Summers (Stratford) who started strongly and were 10-4 up at 9 ends  and kept their cool to finish with a 17-9 win.Di Wilkinson Liz Crispin Elspeth Summers Pat Moore

Vanessa Brazier (Rugby Railway) with Velisa Brown (Southam), Sandra Dean (Whitnash) and Becky Lever (Rugby Thornfield) were slow to get off the starting blocks but having started made a determined effort and were level pegging at 11 ends and again at 13 before their opponents managed to pull back leaving them with a final score of 10-14.

Chris Cooke (Southam) with Aleen Shuttleworth (Stoke), Pam Jowers and Vivienne Belt (both Stratford) started well before their opponents began to fight back and were fairly evenly matched for most of the game finishing 13-19.

Pat Lowe with Nicola Bradshaw (both Rugby Thornfield), Linda Linney (Stratford) and Heather Mills (RLS) were also fairly evenly matched for the first half of the game before the Leicestershire team started to overtake them and leave them with a final score of 11-18.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Diane Harvey (Warwick Boat Club), Pippa Mace and Donna Kerr (both Lillington) regained thCounty Badge Diane Harveyeir momentum after a slow start and were level pegging 9 all at 12 ends before their opponents turned up the heat and went on to leave the home team trailing 11-20.

Jenny Corn with Jayne Henfrey (both Lillington), Celia Bellamy (Warwick Boat Club) and Elaine Taylor (Stoke) were trailing most of the way and despite every effort eventually finished 10-24.

After an enjoyable meal provided by Stoke BC County President, Caroline Harris (Nuneaton), was delighted to finish on a high note by presenting a County Badge and Certificate to Diane Harvey (Warwick Boat Club).
