WELCOME TO WARWICKSHIRE WOMEN'S BOWLING ASSOCIATION 

And now we are almost at the end of the season - where has that year gone! Warwickshire have definitely done us proud and we look forward to an exciting year ahead. Most clubs are preparing for their Finals Day and then the last few Club matches will take place before the green gets put to bed for the winter. Although it has been hot, and sometimes too hot, we have certainly enjoyed a lovely dry, sunny summer and I hope you have enjoyed your year.

WARWICKSHIRE LADIES FINISH WITH A FLOURISH

The last friendly game of the season was against Oxfordshire at Chipping Norton on yet another lovely day despite threatening clouds which fortunately didn’t result in a final soaking and saw Warwickshire storming ahead to win 135-65.

Skip Becky Lever (Rugby Thornfield) on Rink 1 with Lynne Fowler (Southam), Pat Gagg and Donna Kerr (both Lillington) set off at a pace and really never looked back finishing as highest winning rink with a score of 31-5.

Pat Lowe (Rugby Thornfield) skipping Rink 2 with Jacqui Ashley (RLS), Sue Hornsby (Lillington) and Gill Maund (Sherwood Park) were level pegging at 10 ends 8 all before 5 shots on the 11th end helped their cause and they went on to win 20-10.

Skip Elspeth Summers (Stratford) on Rink 3 with Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield), Janice White (RLS) and County President Vanessa Brazier (Rugby Railway) started slowly but were level 6 all at 8 ends and continued the second half of the game in a similar vein to finish with a draw 15 all.

Rink 4 skipped by Ann Harwood (Nuneaton) with Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park), Dawn Horne (RLS) and Jenny Corn (Lillington) were fairly evenly matched to start and 4 all on 5 ends before the visitors started to pull away to eventually win 29-12.

Skip Ros Taylor (Avenue, Coventry) with Anita Cowdrill (RLS), Liz Crispin (Wolvey) and Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) set off strongly and were 21-4 at 10 ends before their opponents started to come back but not enough to stop the visitors winning 26-13.

Pat Moore (Three Spires) with Celia Bellamy (Warwick Boat Club), Lynn Stringer and Jenny Wickens (both RLS) were fairly evenly matched throughout the game but just managed to hang on to a 14-10 win.

After a tasty meal County President, Vanessa Brazier, was delighted to present a Walker Cup flash to Dawn Horne (RLS).
